Road trips are fun but you know what is even more fun? Taking a road trip with your best friend! And if you are someone who yearns for travel, then we've got something just for you. Maybe these are places you've already been to but the experience of visiting these places with friends has a different charm to it.
1). Mumbai to Tarkarli
Tarkarli is a wanderer’s paradise. Forget Goa, Tarkali is a gem you need to explore with your besties. The beaches are clearer and untouched. The best part; there aren't many tourists so spend some crazy time without being disturbed by pesky hawkers. And don’t forget to snorkel in the clear blue sea before you leave.
Distance: 517 kms.
Travel route: Mumbai - Lonavala - Kolhapur - Gaganbavada - Kasal - Malvan - Tarkarli
Travel tip: Take the NH 17 from Mumbai and then take the SH 108 to reach Tarkarli. The route is picturesque and worth the additional distance.
A drive from Chandigarh to Manali is breathtaking. Covering an approximate distance of 300 kms, you will be greeted with densely forested Shivaliks, to the wonderful rivers and curves on the road which is a dream for every traveler.
Distance: 293 kms.
Travel route: Chandigarh – Kalka – Ghumarwin – Mandi – Bhuntar - Manali
Travel Tip: Check out the apple orchards before Manali and you will find a delightful sight.
3). Bangalore to Munnar
Munnar has been one of the most sought out summer tourist destination right from the days of the British Raj. Buckle up and let your hearts be charmed by the beauty of the place. And don’t worry about the drive either. There are plenty of options on the road when hunger strikes.
Distance: 476 kms.
Travel Route: Bangalore - Hosur- Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Perundurai – Kangeyam – Dharapuram – Udumalaipet – Marayoor – Munnar.
Travel tip: If you’re someone who cannot live with a mobile phone, be ready to be disappointed. This is a no-cell-phone-coverage zone!
4). Delhi to Leh/Ladakh
How can an essential road trip be complete without the mention of Leh/Ladakh? Travel by car or by a motorbike; the ride is spectacular and the serenity of this place is blissful. Throughout the route popular stops include Sarchu and Keylong. The only downside is the fact that the road is open for traffic only from June to September.
Distance: 1,026 kms.
Travel route: Delhi - Chandigarh - Mandi - Kullu - Manali - Rohtang La - Kokhsar - Tandi - Keylong - Darcha - Sarchu - Pang - Upshi – Leh.
Travel tip: Make sure you are geared with all travel essentials including rain gear, woolens and food.
5). Chennai to Pondicherry
Visit Chennai via the amazing city of Mahabalipuram which is famous for a number of monuments and the Shore Temple. The journey is short and scenic which makes it extremely enjoyable.
Distance: 171 kms.
Travel Route: Chennai – Chetpet – Anna Nagar – Pondicherry.
Travel Tip: Artistic or not, one of the many unconventional things you can do in Pondicherry is attending a Tanjavur painting workshops. Do it!
6). Jaipur to Jaisalmer
Jaipur to Jaisalmer is a drive on highways as smooth as butter. Take the amazing drive and watch desert pass by. The road from Jaipur to Jaisalmer is filled with small scattered villages and towns. They are vibrant and the cuisine will have you craving for more.
Distance: 571 kms.
Travel route: Jaipur - Merta Road - Jodhpur - Mathaniya - Osiyan - Phalodi - Ramdevra - Pokaran - Lathi – Jaisalmer
Travel tip: When on the road, do not forget to visit the Kumbalgarh Fort and the Kumbalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary.
7). Kolkata to Kumaon
If you’re from Kolkata, this road trip is the essential travel destination in your travel bucket list. The change in scenery on this road trip is unbelievable. In spite of the distance the road trip is extremely convenient and enjoyable as there are fuel stations and restaurants at regular intervals. And of course the roads are superb!
Distance: 1,300 kms.
Travel route: Kolkata - Durgapur - Varanasi - Allahabad - Kanpur - Pilibhit - Kumaon
Travel tip: Don’t forget to visit Binsar. Drive down from Almora and visit the German bakery which probably serves the best ‘pizzas’ and ‘thukpa’.
8). Ahmedabad to Kutch
Kutch is a land of contrasts. Discover the Rann of Kutch on this memorable drive from Ahmedabad. And don’t forget to visit the Wildlife Sanctuary and buy some neat local handicrafts.
Distance: 400 kms.
Travel route: Ahmedabad - Viramgam - Dhrangadhra - Halvad - Lakadia - Bhachau - Bhuj
Travel tip: If you really like local handicrafts, Hodko village is the place.
